A 14-day ultimatum has been issued to the Delta State government by
public servants in the state, threatening to embark on strike over
“excessive taxation on workers’ salaries,” among other grievances.
The ultimatum was contained in a letter by the state council of the
National Public Service Negotiating Council to the state governor,
endorsed by the state Secretary of the Association of Senior Civil
Servants of Nigeria, Mr. Lucky Edewor and leaders of seven other
affiliate unions.
“The state Joint Negotiating Council, JNC, hereby issue 14 days
ultimatum to the state government to address the matter referred to in
the communiqué dated September 19, 2013 as well as the obnoxious issue
of excessive taxation of workers’ salaries, partial implementation of
the minimum wage and stoppage of National Housing Fund in Delta State.
“Failure by the state government to address the above itemised issues
within 14 days, all workers in public service of the state will
commence an indefinite industrial action (strike) from November 19.”
